Hafawa

Hafawa was green on her debut when she won on her debut at Pontefract and she was green again on her second start at Ripon on Saturday when she just went down by a short head to Exotic Beauty in a conditions stakes over seven furlongs. Tadhg O’Shea could never relax on the daughter of Intikhab, she hung to her right at the back of the field throughout the race as Exotic Beauty took them along. She did improve nicely on the far side of the field to arrive there with what looked like a winning challenge, but she hung again markedly to her right at the furlong pole, O’Shea switched his whip quickly to his left hand and she straightened up a bit, but then Exotic Beauty leaned towards her and both of them drifted across to the centre of the track, with Exotic Beauty’s nose just getting to the line first. Hafawa should improve for this, she will continue to improve as she learns about racing, and, as a daughter of Intikhab out of a Diesis mare, she should improve for stepping up in distance.
