Pose

The Highclere filly Pose ran a lot better than her finishing position suggests in the Watership Down Stud Sales Race at Ascot last Friday. Drawn on the stands side in stall four, Ryan Moore really had no option but to go down that side, the unfavoured side, with six rivals who joined him there. He tracked Jozafeen in that group for as long as he could, but by the time they reached the two-furlong pole it was obvious that the far side were well clear, so Moore had to make the best of his way home on the near side. With nothing with which to race, the manner in which Pose picked up was impressive, and she kept on well to finish fifth overall and well clear of her rivals on the near side. Even the bare form of this race was much better than anything that she had done before, and she can be marked up a fair bit on it, seeming to appreciate the step up in trip to seven furlongs. She was weak in the market before she contested a six-furlong nursery at Goodwood on Thursday off a mark of 70, and she was fairly disappointing, finishing only fifth, but it all seemed to happen a little quickly for her, she just couldn’t quicken with them at the two-furlong pole, and she is worth another chance stepped back up to seven furlongs.
