The Minack

The Minack put in a nice performance to win a hot two-and-a-half-mile mile novices’ hurdle at Huntingdon on Thursday. Always prominent up on the outside as Nick Schofield probably searched for the best of the ground, helping to set a decent pace, his jumping was good and he travelled well throughout. Schofield squeezed him on a little going down the back straight, and, while he wasn’t travelling as well as Sarando was around the home turn, he stuck to his guns well, picked up in front at the second last and stayed on really well over the last and up the run in to get the better of Sarando (who wasn’t helped by a mistake at the last) by a length, with the pair of them pulling clear of the highly talented Master Of The Hall in third.

The Minack is by King’s Theatre out of Ebony Jane, he travels well and he should be even better when he steps up in trip. He is an exciting chaser in-waiting, apparently the 2011 RSA Chase is his main aim, but he is a useful staying novice hurdler in the interim, he seems to have the right attitude, and he should be worth following.
