Ladies Are Forever

Ladies Are Forever was the one to take out of this year’s Queen Mary Stakes for me. Geoff Oldroyd’s filly came under pressure quite early in the race, but she found a lot for it and came there to challenge the leaders two furlongs out. It didn’t look like she was going to get there, she began to hang a bit to her left inside the final furlong, before she ran on strongly again and was only beaten a neck and the same by two good fillies in Maqaasid and Meow.

This was only Ladies Are Forever’s second run and she should improve a lot for it, she was still very green here and she would have been even closer had she run in a straighter line. A daughter of Monsieur Bond, she is a full sister to Hoof It, who is a highly progressive sprinter this season, having already won three times, and she is also out of a half-sister to Wokingham winner Ratio. Connections clearly hold her in very high regard. After she won her maiden impressively at Beverley at the end of May, her trainer was quick to pinpoint the Lowther Stakes as her main target. She would be a big player there, as she gave the impression here that an extra furlong would suit well.
