King Of Reason

Put up here after his good run in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot, King Of Reason is worth mentioning again after he finished third behind Start Right in a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket on Saturday. David Simcock’s gelding was settled well out the back off what wasn’t a frenetic pace, there was no real need for Dane O’Neill to sit so far back. He eventually was asked to make his ground, but it was into a quickening pace, the task was more difficult than it should have been, and he just ran out of ground in the end. He was in front 20 yards after the line and he looks a fair bit better than the bare form of this. He was about 12 lengths down at one stage in the Britannia before staying on really well into fifth, Dane O’Neill would ride him closer to the pace here if he had the race to ride again. He beat his sole rival in a maiden comfortable since the Britannia, and he looks to be going in the right direction. The handicapper has only raised him 2lb for this and he will be interesting again next time off his current mark of 85.
