Pavershooz

Pavershooz ran a cracker in a decent five-furlong handicap at Ayr on Monday, putting up his best performance for almost a year. Coming from stall three, he showed a lot of pace on the far side in the early stages, before coming over to join Favourite Girl in the centre of the track. Pavershooz was in front at this stage and led into the final furlong. He just gave best to Favourite Girl in the end, but he kept on well for second with some useful sprinters in behind.

Pavershooz had a wind operation after his last run and it has obviously brought him on, back close to the level of form that he was showing last season at around this time. He was a real flag-bearer for his small trainer Noel Wilson, winning three valuable handicaps. The ground would have been softer than ideal for him here as well, and there could be a decent race in him now on better ground. The handicapper has raised him 4lb to a mark of 91, but that is still 3lb lower than his rating last autumn. There could be another decent prize to be won with him.
