Tobann

Tobann was impressive in winning her maiden over seven furlongs at Gowran Park on Sunday in a good time.

The daughter of Teofilo travelled well just behind the leading five, she made nice ground around the outside around the home turn, and she picked up impressively to come clear when Kevin Manning gave her a squeeze just inside the two-furlong pole, racing enthusiastically and running straight as a gun barrel all the way to the line.

She may well have benefitted from her first-time tongue-tie, but there is probably more to it than that. She looks to have improved from two to three and she wasn’t suited to setting only a steady pace on her previous run in the maiden at The Curragh won by Moth.

Trainer Jim Bolger said afterwards that he was surprised she handled the easy ground as well as she did, so she could be even better back on better ground. She is in the Listed Tetrarch Stakes against the colts and geldings at The Curragh next Monday, that looks like an ideal race for her in terms of distance and grade, and she will be of interest if she takes her chance in it. On breeding, she should get at least a mile, she has a really likeable attitude and, rated just 72 before this race, she could progress a fair way from here.
