Past Winners » Western Reserve

Western Reserve ran a big race last month at Sandown to finish second behind Awesome Power.  It usually pays to race handily at Sandown, but he went very fast in front, taken on, as he was, by Mustaaqeem, and he did well to keep on as well as he did.

Awesome Power was well beaten at Newmarket on Thursday, but that wasn’t his running, he is an exciting colt, and the third horse that day, Pacify, ran really well back at Sandown last Saturday.  It is solid form.

Western Reserve was raised 4lb for that, but that is fair.  That was just his third ever run, he has bags of scope for progression, and Pat Smullen is an interesting booking.  Newmarket’s July Course is another prominent racer’s track, and the drop down by a furlong in trip to a mile should be ideal.
