Miss Power

Miss Power put up a good performance to finish second behind Music Box in the six-furlong fillies’ handicap at Naas last Saturday. Slowly away from stall eight on the near side, and held up towards the rear of the field on the near side, it appeared that she got a little out-paced as they ran to the two-furlong pole. However, fully five lengths behind ultimate winner Music Box on the run to the furlong pole, Eddie Lynam’s filly stayed on strongly for Robbie Downey through the final furlong to take second place, just three parts of a length behind the talented winner.

It was a good performance by Sabena Power’s filly. She was conceding 6lb to the year-younger winner after taking her rider’s 3lb claim into account, and she got to within three parts of a length of her in a race that was run in a decent time. This was her first run over six furlongs since she made her racecourse debut at Dundalk in September last year and she appeared to get the trip well. Indeed, she raced as if she might improve for a step up to seven furlongs.

Her record over five furlongs reads 112, she won a handicap under 10 stone at Down Royal on her previous run, but this was probably a career-best from her and there could be more improvement now in her over six. She has raced just six times in her life and there could be more improvement to come anyway. Her trainer is dynamite with sprinters, and the Zebedee filly will be of interest wherever she goes next.
