I do like Lie Forrit also, he probably would have won at Aintree last time had his rider not lost his balance at the second last. That was a high profile fall, there was a danger that he would have been overbet on his next start, and certainly the 3/1 that was available last night made no appeal. But he has drifted back out to 4/1 now this morning, and he is worth backing at that. He is most progressive, he is only five and has raced just four times over hurdles, progressing with each run. He was rewarded with a 9lb hike for his run at Aintree, which is a bit harsh given that he didn’t even reach the winning line, but he is probably progressive enough to withstand that type of hike. He handles soft ground and he should stay the distance – he stayed on really well on soft ground at Ayr last February to win a decent two-mile-five-and-a-half-furlong handicap hurdle. There is probably much better still to come. Campbell Gillies knows the horse well, he recovered on time to ride at Cheltenham yesterday, and he is good value for his 3lb claim.
