Message of 3rd September:

It is interesting that G Force was left in (the Betfred Sprint Cup) at the five-day stage. It looks like he is an intended runner now. I had him in mind for a five-furlong race, I was hoping that he would run in the Flying Five at The Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. We might still back him on Saturday morning if he is declared, but I am happy to leave him alone now at 10/1 and wait for declarations, the ground and the opposition. He shouldn’t be much shorter than that on Saturday morning if the main contenders stand their ground, which looks likely at this stage.

Message of 6th September:

… (as a second bet) I just prefer G Force, and I am backing David O’Meara’s horse.

He does have almost a length to find with Extortionist on their running in the Nunthorpe, but he probably would have finished upsides if he hadn’t run out of racing room close home. Also, he just has slightly more scope for progression now as a sprinter who has raced just seven times in his life.

David O’Meara has brought him along really nicely this season. He only won his maiden on his debut this term, then won a handicap, and had just his first run in a Group race in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood six weeks ago. He improved for that experience to the Nunthorpe, and there is every chance that he will improve again significantly from the Nunthorpe to today, with the step up to six likely to suit him well. He is worth backing now at 10/1 or 11/1.

I am still happy with (our ante post bet on) Gordon Lord Byron. Joseph O’Brien and William Buick have both been claimed for their respective stables, but Wayne Lordan is riding on the crest of a confidence wave this season.

G FORCE WON (ADV 11/1), GORDON LORD BYRON 2ND (ADV 8/1)
