Past Winners » Twilight Son

18th-Jun-2016

I am backing Twilight Son in the Diamond Jubilee.

There is no rocket science to his chance, he is just a top class sprinter who has lots in his favour today and who is over-priced in my book at 9/2.  I would have had him in as favourite.

Henry Candy’s horse progressed through the sprinting ranks last term, his season reaching a high when he won the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock in September.  Then he ran a cracker to finish second to the brilliant Muhaarar in the British Champions Sprint, when he was poorly drawn on the stands rail.

He was beaten by Magical Memory at York on his debut this season, but he was conceding 5lb to Charlie Hills’ horse.  Also, that was his seasonal debut, Magical Memory had had a run, and he raced up the centre of the track, away from the favoured far side.  He had Magical Memory behind him three times last season, in handicaps at Newmarket and York and in the Sprint Cup and, proven at Ascot, there is every chance that he will beat him again today.

The Tin Man is a big danger, and Undrafted is interesting, last year’s winner, but I think that, now that Henry Candy’s horses are running into a little bit of form again, Twilight Son is the most likely winner.

TWILIGHT SON WON (ADV 9/2, SP 7/2)
