Malibu Bay
Malibu Bay was hemmed in all the way up the home straight in the Classic Trial at Sandown on Friday. He didn’t get out and around the front pair until it was too late, but he did make ground under just hands and heels inside the last 150 yards when it was all too late. He will be better for this run, another Ballydoyle colt having his first run of the season, and it will be interesting to see where he goes next, or where he fits in the Ballydoyle pecking order. It was interesting also to see Aidan O’Brien’s comment in his stable tour in the Racing Post on Monday that he could drop Malibu Bay back in trip to a mile, and maybe go for the Irish Guineas. He is obviously not devoid of speed at home. He did stay on well to win his maiden over a mile at Navan on heavy ground at the back end of last season, but his dam was a top class miler in the US. He is interesting.
