Strawberrydaiquiri

Strawberrydaiquiri was all the rage all morning before the one-mile Coral Distaff at Sandown on Saturday, and she duly obliged on this, a step straight into listed company from a maiden race. Settled nicely in third place behind Say No Now and Wadaat, Ryan Moore moved her to the outisde early in the home straight and asked her to pick up just before they got to the two-furlong pole, and she powered clear under just a hands and heels drive.

This was a really useful performance against decent listed class fillies. Furthermore, Say No Now, who had run well in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot despite going too fast through the early stages, was allowed her own way up front, which made her a really useful rival. It didn’t matter. Strawberrydaiquiri pulverised her with her finishing surge. She won her maiden by six lengths and got a rating of 90 for that, so Michael Stoute obviously decided to raise her to listed class. Ryan Moore didn’t have to be hard on the daughter of Dansili on just the third run of her life. She saw out this extended mile well, she has only ever raced over a mile, and she gives the impression that she could easily step up in trip. She is progressive and should be worth following.
