Master Medic

Master Medic put up a nice performance to land a good handicap chase run over an extended two miles at Ascot last Saturday. Settled nicely in mid-division behind Fix The Rib, who set a really strong pace, as is his wont, Master Medic made nice progress down the side of the track to move into second place behind the leader on the approach to the home turn. It wasn’t certain that Fix The Rib was going to come back to him at one stage, but once Robert Walford asked the chaser to close, he made up the ground quite quickly on the approach to the second last, and he went on on the approach to the last before staying on well up the run-in.

This was a good performance from a highly progressive individual. He has now won his last four starts – indeed, he has only been beaten once over fences, and that was on his chasing debut at Huntingdon last October. After that, he simply continued to progress, beating the highly regarded Atouchbetweenacara at Huntingdon in November, giving him a stone and a pound, en route. He has the speed to be effective over this two miles, but he has won twice over two and a half, that may be more his trip, and he may even get three miles in time. The handicapper has raised him 10lb for this to a mark of 150, but he may even be beyond handicaps now. He is really progressive, he has run just five times over fences, and there is no telling how high he can go. He will be of big interest wherever he shows up next, as long as the ground isn’t too soft.
