Six of the horses who lined up in the three-mile handicap hurdle at the Boylesports meeting here in mid-December line up again here. Time For Rupert was gutsy in winning, but I would be backing Made In Japan to reverse placings on 2lb better terms, not counting the jockey’s claim, if there was not a question mark over the Twiston-Davies horses. Tom Molloy brought Made In Japan up the far side that day, whereas Time For Rupert raced up the near rail, which is hugely favoured on soft ground. Paddy Brennan, who preferred Kayf Aramis to Made In Japan last time, takes over from Molloy today, and Brennan loves the near rail. He would be a bet at 10/1, but I just can’t bring myself to back any Twiston-Davies horse these days.

I do like Wolf Moon, he did us a turn a few weeks ago, and he wasn’t travelling as poorly as most commentators seem to think when he made a bad mistake at the second last that day. He is most progressive and, although he is 3lb out of the handicap, he still meets most of the horses who finished in front of him at the Boylesports meeting on better terms (he was 2lb out of the handicap that day). I do worry about him on the ground, I think he will be an even better horse in the spring when he gets better ground, but he may get away with it. At 7/1, he is just about worth backing.

WOLF MOON WON (ADV 7/1 (R4 4.2/1), SP 100/30)
