Hot Prospect

Hot Prospect ran out a really impressive winner of a 10-furlong heritage handicap at Haydock on Saturday. Held up in midfield by Neil Callan, he was always travelling easily in the underfoot conditions, he was the only horse still on the bridle at the two-furlong pole, and when he was asked, he settled the race in a matter of strides, pulling away from his nearest rivals inside the final furlong.

Michael Jarvis’s colt was encountering soft ground for the first time here, he seemed to really appreciate it and he was an easy winner at the end, staying on really well when he got to the front. Mentioned here after his previous run in another competitive heritage handicap at Newmarket (he was the only one to get into that race from the back that day) connections had high hopes for him this year, he had finished third to Bullet Train in the Lingfield Derby Trial earlier in the season and was then thought good enough to take his place in the Derby field, he may not have fully fulfilled those lofty expectations, but he looks progressive now and he will be interesting now for the rest of the season, especially on easy ground over 10 furlongs or perhaps even further.
