Past Winners » Potters Cross

31st-Dec-2016

Potters Cross is nine, but he is also progressive, having raced just seven times over fences.  A winner at this course and over a trip just short of this last April, when he battled on well to get the better of the useful Viva Steve, the pair of them clear, he started off this season with another game with at Chepstow in October off a mark of 123.

Pulled up in the BetVictor Gold Cup – he just never got into a racing rhythm – he bounced back from that back at Chepstow last time, when he beat everything except the well-handicapped Lamb Or Cod.  He led from early that day, and he had everything bar the winner in trouble from a fair way out, and the front pair finished clear.  He was just unlucky to bump into one on the day.

A 5lb hike for that is fair – the winner was raised 8lb – it brings him up to a mark of 132, which is still 2lb lower than his hurdles mark.  He is still potentially a well-handicapped horse, we know that he goes well at Newbury and, while 12st 2lb is a hefty burden, James King’s 7lb claim reduced it to 11st 9lb, and that is more than manageable in absolute terms.

POTTERS CROSS WON (ADV 6/1, SP 11/2)
