Maverick Officer

Maverick Officer can be marked up at least a little on the bare form of his run to finish third in the 7f handicap. He was slowly away, he was last of the eight runners early on, and he drifted over to the stands rail when he started to pick up. He travelled well and he finished well, but he could have been closer.

This 7f may be on the sharp side for him, his best runs have been over 1m, and he probably put up a career-best on his previous run, when he won a 1m handicap at Yarmouth on easy ground off a mark of 88. His new mark of 93, 2lb higher than the mark off which he raced on Thursday, should be well within rang – he raced off a mark of 91 too in the Britannia at Royal Ascot in June – and he could do even better when he races over 1m again.
