Galeola

Galeola was very good in winning the one-mile-seven-furlong handicap. Never far off the pace, Sheila Lavery’s filly was a little keen early on, but she made nice progress for Robbie Colgan around the outside as they turned for home. She moved up easily to join the front rank on the run to the furlong marker and, when her rider asked her to pick up, the response was impressive. She quickly put a race-winning distance between herself and her rivals, and she won comfortably.

The handicapper raised the Rip Van Winkle filly by 8lb for this to a mark of 81, but she is progressive enough to defy that type of hike. This is a third win now in four runs, and it could have been four from four had the Ladies Derby panned out a little differently for her, when she was only beaten a neck and a nose by Moonmeister and Perfect Tapatino. She would be of interest in another handicap now off that mark, but she would also be of interest in a listed race or a Group 3 race. She has raced just seven times now, and she is hugely progressive.
