Brahma Bull

Brahma Bull looked very good in winning the Grade 3 two-and-a-half-mile novices’ chase.  Sent to the front from flagfall by Brian Hayes, his jumping was good and safe, and he travelled easily out in front, ears pricked.  The field concertinaed a little as they started to turn for home, but Willie Mullins’ horse moved on again in front, and he stayed on strongly over the last two fences to come five lengths clear of Ex Patriot.

It was a really nice performance by Willie Mullins’ horse, although it may be that he needs to go right-handed.  He did win a novices’ chase at left-handed Killarney in August, but he jumped badly to his right at Tipperary on his next run, when he disappointed, and he was out to his right again at Cork, which wasn’t really a negative, given that Cork is that way around.  He is eight years old now, but this was just his fifth chase, he is still learning this trade, and he should continue to progress as his jumping becomes more fluent.  He holds an entry in the Grade 1 Drinmore Chase now at right-handed Fairyhouse, and he deserves to take his chance in that.
