Jet Setting Jim
Jet Setting Jim can be marked up a fair bit on the bare form of the performance that he put up in finishing third in the Latin Quarter Beginners’ Chase at Galway last Tuesday. Weak in the market beforehand, he was badly hampered at the second fence when Sea Road Fill jumped across him. He did well to stand up, and Michael O’Sullivan did really well to remain on board. He was always playing catch-up after that though, sixth of seven in a well-stretched-out field as they raced into the dip first time.
He did close up, he jumped well after that in the main, but he was slow over the two fences down the back straight, which meant that he was well off them as they started down the hill. Fifth over the two fences in the dip, he stayed on well around the home turn and up the hill to take third place behind Thecompanysergeant.
A bumper winner last summer and winner of his maiden hurdle at Clonmel in early June, this was just Jet Setting Jim’s second run over fences. On his chasing debut, at Tipperary in early July, he was challenging at the final, one-third of a line of three that included Bowmore and Thecompanysergeant, winner of Tuesday’s race, when he came down. He probably would have finished in front of Thecompanysergeant there, and it probably would have been a good race between him and the ultimate winner Bowmore. There should be more to come from John Queally’s horse now over fences. He is really lightly raced, and he will be of interest wherever he goes next.
