Aramram

Aramram had no answer to the turn of foot that the winner Alfa Kellenic showed in the Ayr Silver Cup on Saturday, but he did well to keep on as well as he did to take second place behind her.  Settled nicely towards the rear of the stands-side group early on, he picked up well for Sean Levey at the two-furlong marker. Alfa Kellenic had kicked for home at that point, and moved to her left towards the far-side group, and she wasn’t for catching, but there was a lot to like about the manner in which Aramram kept on to finish a clear second behind the impressive winner, who was completing a five-timer.

Aramram came into the race on an upward trajectory too, having kept on well to win an apprentices’ handicap on soft ground at Doncaster on St Leger day. Richard Hannon’s horse didn’t have to carry a penalty in Saturday’s race, and the handicapper has had the chance to re-assess him now, he has given him a mark of 87, just 3lb higher than the mark off which he raced on Saturday, and that is more than fair. He is only three, like the winner, so he has lots of potential to continue his progression now as a sprinter. Also, he goes well on soft ground, so he will remain of interest as we move more deeply into the autumn.
