Porter In The Park
Porter In The Park kept on well to take second place in the mares' handicap hurdle at Wincanton on Saturday over a trip that was probably on the sharp side for her. Settled back in the field early on by Joe Anderson, her jumping was good and she travelled well through her race behind a decent pace that Pretending set. She moved up nicely across the top of the track and into the home straight, and she stayed on well from the second last flight. She was just a little short of room on the run to the last, and she couldn't get to Larchmont Lass in the end, but she kept on well on the run-in to take second place behind Paul Nicholls' mare.
It was a nice performance by Emma Lavelle's mare. She was in good form during the summer and, given a short break after she was beaten in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter at the end of July, she raced on her return at Huntingdon in early October as if she would come on for that run, and she duly did that here. She stays further than this two-mile-five-and-a-half-furlong trip, she has won over three miles and two furlongs, and she will be of interest when she steps back up in trip. She will be of interest if she races again now before the ground turns and, if she doesn't, she will be of interest again on better ground in the spring.
