Total Look
Total Look stayed on well to take third place behind Slurricane in the four-year-olds' handicap hurdle at Punchestown on Monday. Settled in fourth place of the six-strong field and along the inside, he was slow at the third last flight after which it appeared as if he got out-paced. Slow again at the second last, he was ridden along by Keith Donoghue around the home turn. He continued to lose ground on the leaders until they straightened up for home, but he kept on well over the last and up the run-in to finish a close-up third, the first three clear.
It was an admirable performance by Gavin Cromwell's horse, particularly when, the subject of a running and riding inquiry, it was revealed that he came home without one of his shoes and that he was coughing post-race. Winner of a three-year-olds' maiden hurdle at Navan in November, a race from which the second and third both came out and won next time, he finished a close-up third behind the dead-heaters Teriferma and Quantock Hills in the juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham's December meeting. Rated 87 on the flat, he is progressive now over hurdles, he has the potential to go beyond his Irish rating of 125, and he could be a horse for the Fred Winter Hurdle at Cheltenham. We know that he can operate at Cheltenham. Eagles Reign won this Punchestown race last year, and he ran a big race in the Fred Winter Hurdle to finish second behind Lark In The Mornin.
