Crescent Moon
Crescent Moon ran out an impressive winner of the two-and-a-half-mile novices' handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday. Strong in the market beforehand, she travelled really well through her race for Keith Donoghue, she moved to the front at the second last flight, still travelling well, and she came away from Divilabother readily, with the runner-up finishing well clear of the rest.
The handicapper raised Gavin Cromwell’s mare by a stone to a mark of 120 for this, but she has the potential to go higher than that. She is only five and this was just her seventh run over hurdles, and she left the impression here that she was winning with plenty in hand. By Spanish Moon and out of a mare who won over two miles and three furlongs over hurdles, Punchestown is surely on her agenda now, and she will have many options there if she does go. The Listed Kilashee Handicap Hurdle over two miles on the Tuesday is an option, although she may not be rated highly enough to get into it. There is a 0-120 handicap hurdle on the Thursday, for which she still just qualifies, and she would be a big player in that if she went there. There is also a listed mares’ novices’ hurdle on the Thursday over two miles, and a there is a winners-of-one contest on the Friday, and there is a listed two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle on the Saturday, which could be ideal for her if she got into it. The bottom weight in the race last year was rated 120, so she might just get in and, a mare who remains unexposed over two and a half miles, she will be of interest if she does.
