Who's Glen

The other horse to take out of the Chester Cup was Who's Glen. Well back in the field early on behind the sedate pace, he was still no better than 10th or 11th as they started around the home turn. It was always going to be difficult for him to get to the leaders from that position into a quickening pace - the winner's finishing speed was over 107% of overall speed - but he got a nice gap on the inside early in the home straight, and he kept on well to take fifth place. The four horses who beat him home all raced prominently from early.

Andrew Balding's horse is only four and this was just his ninth run, and just his third run on turf. He did win impressively at Chester in September, so he obviously handles the track, and he could still be a Chester Cup for next year. He was stepping up in trip here, and he saw out the two-and-a-quarter-mile trip well, at least off a moderate pace, so that opens up options. He was left on his mark of 93, and he will be of interest in another staying handicap off that mark.
