Qilin Queen
Qilin Queen kept on well to finish third in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday. On her toes in the preliminaries, she was keen enough through the early part of the race too, but she stuck to her task well. She couldn't get to Falakeyah, who made all the running, but time may prove that there was no disgrace in going down by three lengths to Owen Burrows' filly.
Qilin Queen was stepping up to 10 furlongs here for the first time and, second in a listed race over a mile at Haydock last September, she improved for the step up in trip. Fastest of all through the final four furlongs and through the final furlong, she is a half-sister to Savvy Knight, whose five wins were all gained at distances between 10 furlongs and 12 furlongs, and their dam won over a mile and a half. This was just her fourth run, and it was her seasonal debut, so she should improve for the experience, and she could improve again for a step up to a mile and a half.
