Ruby's Profit
Ruby's Profit did well to finish third in the three-year-olds' Dash at Epsom on Saturday, she did well to last on the front end for as long as she did in a race in which they went fast from early. Quickly away from her high draw in stall 18, closest to the favoured stands rail, she showed a lot of early pace and settled into her racing rhythm quickly. First or second from flagfall, she only started to wilt deep inside the final furlong as the hold-up horses closed. She was the only horse who raced in the front rank who was still there at the finish. The first six home had a small break on their rivals as they crossed the winning line, and the other five horses who, with Ruby's Profit, filled those first six places all raced in mid-division or worse from early. Those five horses were, respectively, 15th, 12th, 11th, seventh and ninth after a furlong. Ruby's Profit was second, and she hit the front at the furlong pole before losing two places late on.
Winner of two of her three races this season before Saturday, the Profitable filly was impressive in winning a five-furlong handicap at Goodwood on her previous run off a mark of 87. She proved on Saturday that she was more than able for her new mark of 93, and she will be of interest again now at a speed-favouring track. She is all speed. The Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes at Royal Ascot is an obvious target for her now, and she will be of interest in that, for all that Ascot may not be her ideal track. She will be of greater interest if she goes back to Goodwood for the Glorious Goodwood meeting later in the summer.
