Rosato
Rosato did well to finish as close as she did in the six-furlong apprentices' handicap at The Curragh on Saturday, racing, as she was, out towards the centre in a race that was dominated by the stands-side horses. Racing in mid-division from early from stall 13, and out towards the centre in a race in which they congregated towards the stands side, she came under a ride as they passed the three-furlong marker. No better than 12th or 13th at that point, she responded well to Rory Mulligan's urgings, she picked up well out in the centre and she got closer to the leaders on the run to the two-furlong marker. The near-side horses had it at that point though, Carrigans Grove finished off her race well to get the better of Amicitia, but Charles Weld's filly stuck to her task well out in the centre, keeping on to finish a good fourth.
The first three home were drawn, respectively, 15, 20 and 21, and they all raced towards the stands side from early. Rosato was drawn in stall 13, not too low, but she raced out towards the centre. Actually, six of the first seven home were drawn 17 or higher. She was the only middle-to-low-drawn horse who finished in the first seven. The Raven's Pass filly went into the race in good form too, she had beaten the winner of this race, Carrigans Grove, in a six-furlong handicap at Naas at the end of July. The handicapper raised her by 5lb for that win, but he dropped her by 2lb for this defeat, which looks generous. She will be of interest next time now off her new mark of 63. Six furlongs is her trip, she is at her best with a little bit of an ease in the ground, and she seems to go particularly well at Naas and at Navan, where she is two for two.
