Kind Of Blue

Kind Of Blue ran another good race in defeat in the Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday. He travelled well through his race on the near side from his high draw, just behind the winner Big Mojo. He got squeezed out of it at the two-furlong pole, which wasn't ideal, he had to check and start his run again. He had to wait for racing room for a few strides at the furlong marker but, once into the clear, he finished off his race well to just get up for second place in front of his owner-companion Flora Of Bermuda.

James Fanshawe's horse hasn't won since he won the British Champions Sprint Stakes on Champions' Day at Ascot last year, and there is a sense that he is building up to that again. His first two runs this season were disappointing, but his run in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at The Curragh last month was much more encouraging, and this was a step forward on that. Interestingly, he finished second in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last year too on his final run before he went to Ascot and won the British Champions Sprint Stakes. He goes well at Ascot, and softer ground there should also be a positive. He could be the one they all have to beat again at Ascot.
