Sunset On Leros
Sunset On Leros had no luck in-running in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster on Friday. Settled in mid-division early on towards the far side, he travelled really well through his race. He was the only horse who was still on the bridle on the run to the furlong marker, but he just got squeezed out of it a little as Hankelow and Sir Albert converged in front of him. Switched towards the near side, he didn't have a clear run at it there either as the winner Avicenna finished off well. He finished fourth in the end, but it was a frustrating run. He left the impression that he had more left to give.
An impressive winner of a novice stakes over this course and distance in July, this was another step forward from Marco Botti's horse. This was just his third run too, so there could be a fair bit more to come. He holds an entry in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket later this month, and he would be an interesting outsider if he took his chance in that. Also, he obviously goes well at Doncaster, so he will be of obvious interest if and when he goes back there.
