Bossofthebrownies

Bossofthebrownies was really impressive in winning the beginners' chase that opened proceedings at Fairyhouse last Tuesday. Settled in second place by Darragh O'Keeffe through the early part of the race behind the leader Coumeenoole, his jumping was good for a chasing debutant. He tracked the new leader Hitak into the home straight, he moved to the front on the run to the second last fence and, when his rider asked him to pick up, he came right away from his rivals. He was about 10 lengths clear by the time he reached the final fence, and he won by 13.

It was a fine performance by Mouse Morris' horse on his seasonal debut, his first run since last March and his debut over fences. He didn't win a hurdle race in seven attempts, but he ran some fine races in defeat, he reached a rating of 120 over the smaller obstacles and, on this evidence, he has the potential to make up into a much better chaser. This beginners' chase was won last year by Croke Park, who went on to win the Drinmore and then the Grade 1 Long Distance Novice Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival. Bossofthebrownies doesn't hold an entry in the Drinmore but, given how well he saw out this trip, he will be interesting now in the good staying novice chases. He handles this soft ground well.
