The Enabler
The Enabler was impressive in winning the rated novices' chase over two miles and five furlongs at Fairyhouse on Saturday. Sent to the front from flagfall by Jack Kennedy, his jumping was good in the main, if a little to the left. He was challenged on the front end by Tareze at different stages, but he jumped on again at the third last, travelled best of all into the home straight, and he came away from his rivals over the last two fences to win well.
This was an impressive performance by Gordon Elliott's horse on just his second run over fences. He set a fairly tepid tempo, but he got into a good rhythm from early, and he finished off his race strongly. He was 2.7 seconds faster than his fastest rival through the final four furlongs according to RaceIQ, and he was over a second faster than the next fastest through the final furlong. He was essentially a two-and-a-half-mile hurdler last season, but he saw out this two-mile-five-furlong trip well over fences, and he could do even better now when faced with a greater test of stamina. His new chase rating of 138 is 10lb higher than his hurdles rating but, second in his only point-to-point and winner of a listed bumper, he shaped last season as if he would be better over fences, and he has the potential to go higher still. He is only six and this was just his second chase. He handled the Fairyhouse fences well, so he will be of interest if and when he goes back there, and he could be even better when he goes left-handed over fences.
