Indeevar Bleu
Indeevar Bleu was impressive in winning the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle at Aintree on St Stephen's Day. Settled towards the rear of the field early on by Jack Tudor, he travelled well through his race, and he moved up nicely on the outside over the cross flight. That was the end of the jumping in the race, the three flights of hurdles in the home straight were omitted because of the low sun, so the usual third last was the last, and that always puts an unusual hue on a race, but Indeevar Bleu couldn't have been much more impressive than he was in winning. He moved up easily on the near side, he hit the front as they by-passed the final flight, and he cleared away to win by five and a half lengths.
Winner of a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las on his final run last season off a mark of 120, Olly Murphy's horse stepped forward from that on his debut this season when he finished second behind Tutti Quanti in the Gerry Feilden Hurdle at Newbury off a mark of 126. He shaped that day as if he would appreciate a step up in trip, and he duly proved that hypothesis here, on his first run over two and a half miles. He is eight years old now, but he has raced just seven times in his life and just six times over hurdles. A hike of 9lb takes him up to a mark of 138, but he won with lots in hand and he should be progressive enough to be of interest again off his new mark.
