Buachaillbocht

The other horse to take out of the Paddy Power Chase is Buachaillbocht. Well backed beforehand, sent off as joint favourite in the end, Ted Walsh's horse was held up early on by Shane O'Callaghan. The pace wasn’t overly strong, and it was difficult for the hold-up horses, but he stuck to his task well, and he kept on up the hill to take sixth place. To put it into context, he was 16th six furlongs out, when the first five home were all ninth or better, and he was still only 10th with one furlong to run, when the first five home occupied the first five places. And he raced towards the inside for most of the race. The first five home generally raced middle to outside.

There should be more to come from Buachaillbocht as a staying chaser. Winner of a rated chase over an extended two and a half miles at Fairyhouse last April, he proved here that he could stay three miles. He will be of interest in another staying chase now, and he could morph into a horse for the Irish Grand National. He is one for one over fences at Fairyhouse.
