Kinturk Kalanisi
Kinturk Kalanisi ran a big race on his seasonal return to finish third in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown. Prominent from early on Harry Sexton, his jumping was good and he moved up on the inside into a share of the lead with Favori De Champdou at the second last fence. It looked like he was travelling best of all as they raced to the home turn, but lack of a recent run probably found him out on the run up the hill, racing towards the far side, probably on the worst of the ground, and his run flattened out on the run-in as lack of a recent run probably took its toll.
It was still a fine run by Tom Gibney's horse, it was a real bounce back to form after an abject performance on his final run last season in the Irish Grand National. Speaking a couple of days later, his trainer was wondering if he wasn't a real extreme distance horse, that he could be at his best over three miles or even short of three miles. Either way, a 3lb hike was not harsh, and he will be of interest wherever he goes now, with this run under his belt. He hasn't won yet over fences, but he has raced in just six chases, and he will be of interest wherever he goes now.
