Come Walk With Me
Come Walk With Me ran better than the bare form of the run suggests in finishing fourth in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle on the final day of Leopardstown's Christmas Festival. Held up by Keith Donoghue off a moderate pace, he started to make ground across the top of the track as they faced up to the second last flight. A peck on landing over that obstacle didn't help, and he got tapped for toe a little when they quickened at the top of the home straight. No better than seventh as they straightened up, he picked up on the run to the final flight, and he stayed on well up the run-in to take fourth place behind the impressive winner Walks In June.
This was a race in which you wanted to be prominent. The winner's finishing speed was over 110% of his overall speed, and three of the first four home were in the first four from early. Come Walk With Me was fastest of all through the final four furlongs and through the final furlong.
Eddie Cawley's horse hasn't won yet, but he has raced just six times over hurdles, so he retains plenty of potential for further progression. Runner-up three times last season, behind smart types in, respectively, Sounds Victorius, Honesty Policy and Redemption Day, the last-named two Grade 1 winners, his first two runs this season were over fences. He seemed to be happier here back over hurdles, and there could be a good handicap hurdle in him now off this type of mark of 125. He could be one for a handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse.
