Son Of Anarchy

Son Of Anarchy was a little unlucky not to finish even closer than he did in the two-and-a-half-mile novices' hurdle at Navan on Saturday. Weak in the market beforehand, he was held up towards the rear of the field early on by Mark Walsh, and towards the outside. He travelled well into his race, he moved up nicely on the outside on the run into the home straight. He wasn't great at the second last flight, but he responded well after that on the run to the last. He made a mistake at the final flight though, he went to his left and he lost momentum. About five lengths behind the leaders half-way up the run-in, it was to his credit that he stayed on up the hill as well as he did, nabbing third place and closing to within less than two lengths of the winner Zanoosh by the time he got to the winning line.

This was another step forward by Gordon Elliott's horse. He got off the mark over hurdles at Punchestown in November on his previous run, when he came from back in the field off a moderate pace and finished off his race well to win nicely. He was 1.85secs faster than the next fastest through the final four furlongs. This was his first run since then, eight weeks later, and, only just turned seven, there is every chance that he will be able to continue his forward march. The handicapper left him on his mark of 128 after this run, and that was fair. Winner of his only point-to-point and out of a mare who won over three miles, he shapes as if he could improve again for a greater test of stamina.
