Speiriuil
Speiriuil was impressive in winning the two-mile-five-furlong handicap hurdle at Kelso's March meeting. Held up early on by Ryan Mania, she made nice progress across the top of the track, travelling like the most likely winner from a long way out. She hit the front on the run to the omitted final flight, and she cleared away to win well. The Navigator did fall at the final flight in the back straight, and he brought down Judicial Deference and Wasthatok, so the field was depleted a little bit, but Speiriuil was far superior to everything else that was in the race. She was in front from the home turn and looked like she was almost certainly idling close home as she was closed down by Jericoacoara.
A 6lb hike for this was not harsh. She continues to progress, she was completing a hat-trick here, and she should be able to cope with her new mark of 120. Her record in cheekpieces reads 2111. She is still only six, and trainer Adam Nicol said that she only ever does enough. She handles this quicker ground, so she will be of interest if she goes to Perth.
