Elusive Butterfly
Elusive Butterfly put up a good performance to finish fourth in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. Smartly away from stall one, she was quickly into her stride and into a prominent position. She travelled well until well beyond the two-furlong marker, and she kept on well through the final furlong to retain fourth place. She couldn't go with Sukanya, who quickened up smartly, but she did best of the prominent racers.
This was a race that was run at a fast pace, with the first three home all coming from mid-division or worse. The winner was actually last early on. Winner of her maiden over seven furlongs at Southwell in January, Elusive Beauty was only just beaten by Spinning Lizzie in a conditions race at Kempton over a mile three weeks earlier, and this was a step up on that. Weak in the market here, she should continue to progress, and she should be seen to better effect at a track at which and in a race in which her prominent style of racing is an asset.
