Lady Mary Heath

Red Charlie was the obvious eye-catcher from the seven-furlong handicap at The Curragh on Sunday. Andy Slattery's horse had to go back in order to go forward, and he finished off his race best of all.  He was an unlucky loser.  But he wasn't missed by many and he is sure to be popular wherever he goes next. Lady Mary Heath wasn't as obviously eye-catching, but she didn't have an awful lot of luck in-running either.  Aidan Howard's filly was short of room inside the two-furlong marker, Jack Cleary had to wait for the gaps and, when they arrived, the Dragon Pulse filly finished off her race well to take third place, she was second fastest through the final furlong after Red Charlie.

Lady Mary Heath hasn't won yet, but this was just her seventh run and her winning turn shouldn't be far off now.  Fourth over a mile at The Curragh on heavy ground on the first day of this turn season, she was tried over 10 furlongs at Navan next time, but she didn't see out the trip.  She was happier returned to seven furlongs here, seven furlongs or a mile seems to suit her best.  The handicapper raised her by just 2lb to a mark of 66, which was more than fair.  She will be of interest now in a similar contest off that mark.
