Twain

Twain only finished fifth in the Group 3 Alleged Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday, but he still put up an encouraging performance.  Settled by Ryan Moore towards the rear of the field early on, he was 10th and boxed away along the inside as they turned for home.  Asked for his effort at the two-furlong marker, he kept on well along the inside before switching off the rail and keeping on to get up for fifth place.

This was Twain's first run since he won the Group 1 Criterium International in October 2024 as a two-year-old.  He obviously had his issues last season, he didn't get to race at all as a three-year-old, which was frustrating, but there is every chance that he can make up for lost time now as a four-year-old.  Aidan O'Brien's colt proved here that he retains lots of ability and enthusiasm, and he should be able to build on this now.  His dam raced exclusively over seven furlongs, she won the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes over that trip, but she is a half-sister to Irish Oaks and Ribblesdale Stakes winner Bracelet, and his grandam is a half-sister to Galileo and Sea The Stars, so there is every chance that he will be able to step out in trip.  He holds entries in the Mooresbridge Stakes over 10 furlongs and in the Lockinge Stakes over a mile, and it will be interesting to monitor his progress as the season develops.
