Lost Boys

The other horse to take out of the London Gold Cup was the winner Lost Boys. He was nicely positioned from flagfall, just better than mid-division behind a moderate pace, but he couldn’t find racing room when rider Jason Watson wanted to go forward. Actually, he had to check back at the two-furlong marker, he had to switch to his outside, at which stage Sahara King - another horse who has lots of potential upside - was coming with what looked like a race-winning run down the outside. Lost Boys did well to pick up as well as he did, to get back up and head Sahara King, the pair of them finishing nicely ahead of their rivals.

Winner of his maiden at Haydock last September on his third and final run last season, David Menuisier's horse started off this season brightly with a game performance to win a 10-furlong handicap at Sandown last month. This was a step forward from that, racing off a mark of 89, 6lb higher than his Sandown mark. By Night Of Thunder and out of a mare who won over 10 and 12 furlongs, he could go out to 12 furlongs in time, but he has the pace for 10. The London Gold Cup has been won in the past by many horses who went on to be Group performers, including Group 1 performers, so it will be interesting to monitor how this year's renewal pans out. The handicapper raised Lost Boys by 7lb to a mark of 96, but he is progressive enough to be of interest again off his new mark.
