Jancis
Jancis could only finish fifth in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at The Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend, but she is one in whom it could pay to retain faith. She was sent off the 2/1 joint favourite, so it was ostensibly a disappointing run on the face of it, but she was held up last, as is her wont, off a moderate pace, and it was a weekend on which the prominent racers generally dominated. She had to make her ground widest of all and, actually, she was only beaten a total of two and a half lengths in the end.
The Curragh just doesn't play to Jancis' strengths. In three runs there, her record reads 555. Willie McCreery's filly is at her best when she can be held up off a fast pace and delivered late, as she was when she won the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket's Guineas meeting in May, and when she won the Group 3 Brownstown Stud Stakes at Leopardstown as a three-year-old. She will be of interest if she goes to Royal Ascot. Her hold-up style of racing can be an asset at Ascot, and her chance might be under-rated if she lines up in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes there.
