Midnight Dusk
There was an awful lot to like about the performance that Midnight Dusk put up in winning the six-furlong handicap at The Curragh on Saturday. For starters, there was the visual impression that he created. In front on the far side from early, he travelled like the most likely winner from a long way out and, when Billy Lee gave him a squeeze, he came right away from his rivals. He won by just over three lengths, but the next four home all finished close to the stands rail, all from high draw. He finished over six lengths ahead of Bishopton, next best on the far side, and he also raced from a high draw, he raced towards the near side early on. Also, he clocked the fastest comparative time of the day on the straight course, and he won well, he probably could have gone faster if he had been pushed.
Jack Foley's horse is a really exciting sprinter now. He made all to win nicely at Fairyhouse on his previous run but, racing off a 4lb higher mark, he took his form to a whole new level here. The handicapper raised him by 13lb for this, which is obviously not insignificant, but he still has the potential to go beyond his new mark of 94. This six-furlong trip suits him well, he has bags of pace, and he will always be of interest at tracks at which early pace is rewarded.
