Tattycoram

Tattycoram was impressive in winning the Lancashire Oaks at Newmarket on Saturday. Settled nicely in third place from her wide draw behind Tiffany and Miss Justice, she came under a ride fully three furlongs from home, it looked like she wasn't travelling as well as the two fillies in front of her. But she responded gamely to rider Ed Greatrex's urgings. She hit the front just inside the furlong marker, and she cleared away from her rivals when she met the rising ground, winning by four and a half lengths in the end. It was to her credit too that she raced away from the stands rail, which appeared to be favoured on the day.

Ralph Beckett's filly was a nicely progressive filly last season as a three-year-old, but she has taken her form to a new level this term. She won a listed race over a mile and a half at Goodwood on her seasonal return, keeping on well in a slowly-run race to win nicely from Coedana, who won a listed race at Pontefract next time. And this was a step forward from that, given the authority with which she came away from the 112-rated Tiffany. Her trainer said that she will probably go straight to the Yorkshire Oaks now, and she will be of interest if she goes there. She was well beaten in the Musidora Stakes last year on her only run to date at York, but she is a better filly now. She would be of even greater interest if she took up her entry in the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. She stays well, she is unexposed over a mile and six furlongs, and she has done really well in each of her two runs at Goodwood.
