James's Delight
James's Delight put up a nice performance to finish a close-up third behind favourite Big Mojo in the Group 3 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday, on his first run since Irish Guineas weekend. Fourth of the five runners early on, he came under a ride on the run to the two-furlong marker and, switched towards the far side by Dylan Browne McMonagle, he kept on all the way to the line. He was second fastest through each of the last three furlongs, only just behind the winner Big Mojo, a total of 0.03secs.
This was a fine run by Clive Cox's horse on his first run back after a short break and on ground that should have been faster than ideal for him. His best runs are on good ground or softer, so he will be of interest now as we move into the autumn. His two runs at Deauville were both good, so he will be of interest if he takes his chance in the Group 3 six-furlong contest later this month in which he was only just beaten two years ago. He is one for one at York too, and there is a listed six-furlong race there in early September that could suit, especially if the ground came up on the easy side.
