Sovereign Cry
Sovereign Cry did well to get as close as he got in the six-furlong handicap at The Curragh on Sunday. Slowly away and held up early on, he was still last of the 14 runners passing the two-furlong marker. Switched to the near side, he finished off his race strongly for Shane Foley to get up for fourth place, just a length behind the winner Mint Man, who made the best of his way home on the far side, the width of the racecourse away from him. Sovereign Cry was fastest through the final furlongs, 0.15secs faster than the next fastest.
Danny McLoughlin's horse won over five furlongs at Naas in July, but he saw out the six-furlong trip well here, and he proved that he was able for this mark of 78. This was just his 10th run, just his sixth on turf, and he is only three, so he has plenty of potential to improve again now as a sprinter. He will be of interest wherever he goes now.
