Green Dreamer
Green Dreamer did well to get as close as he got in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at The Curragh on Saturday. Slowly away and a detached last of the six runners early on, he had to be squeezed along a little bit by Declan McDonogh early on but, the more the race progressed, the more he came into it. Still last and fully five or six lengths behind the leaders at the three-furlong marker, he stuck to his task admirably and, moved towards the outside by his rider for clear sailing at the two-furlong marker, he stayed on really well through the final furlong, getting the better of the hitherto unbeaten Nola Soul for third place and getting to within a length and a half of the winner Giant Sequoia.
Winner of his maiden over a mile at Leopardstown in July, when he made just about all the running and saw off the well-supported Shakespeare, Joseph O'Brien's horse was dropping down to seven furlongs here for the first time, and he just appeared to find it all happening a little too quickly for him. He should appreciate a step back up to a mile now. He belongs in this grade though, and that opens up the options of the Beresford Stakes and the Royal Lodge Stakes, both over a mile, as well as the Group 1 Golden Fleece Stakes at the Irish Champions' Festival over nine furlongs.
